Every one is complaining of discrimination and almost every one is busy discriminating. Gender discrimination, perhaps one of the oldest practices, is deep rooted in the Indian society. This discrimination against a person or a group on the basis of gender in the 21st century is surely disappointing.
Gender stereotyping is taking its toll especially in the corporate world. Where nothing is considered no one is heard and every one is just aiming to grow ruthlessly. Jawaharlal Nehru quoted, “You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women”. Women in India are indeed making a change in their lives and perhaps are much stronger than ever before. But then are they really happy and content doing what they are actually doing? Is it a cake walk for them to reach success? Research scholars from various countries have found that ‘women’, the so called ‘weaker sex’, often experiences “Glass ceiling”, but then is it just that or something else?
It has also been proved that there are no countries in the world where women enjoy the same privileges as men do. Various developing countries do provide employment laws, but then there is a question mark that lingers around the ‘emotional security’ of the women employees??
Men certainly don’t have emotions and they have their escape from the emotional crisis that only a woman has to go through. When asked about the emotional crisis to one of my colleagues, the answer was just a loud laugh, “being emotional works only at home and not in the professional set-up”.
Multi-tasking women of today’s modern world are surely deprived of recognition and appreciation. Her status in the society holds no relevance to any one, simply because she is just an added help to run a family, after all it’s an emotionally strong man who runs a family.
How much ever she works hard inside the home or even outside, her efforts are not really appreciated. Majority of the men I interacted with on the same issue felt, “Women are just meant to do house-hold work and they are only good at that, whenever given more responsibility they are sure to get confused, they simply cant handle pressure.”
Difficult to make a guy understand that it’s emotions that grips people tighter. And it’s emotions that lead to a greater success. If only we understand this that “Every one is different and every one is same. The sooner this truth is accepted; the sooner this world will become a better place”.
Discrimination discrimination every where….
